Controversial billionaire George Soros, accused of destabilizing governments and funding extreme movements, announced Monday, July 13, that he will donate $220 million to groups focused on “racial justice.” In a statement , the Open Society Foundations, the founder’s philanthropic organization, detailed $150 million in five-year grants to black-owned racial justice groups. The other $70 million will go to “more immediate efforts to advance racial justice.” The groups that will receive the funding are expected to include Black Voters Matter and Repairers of the Breach. The announcement comes after public records revealed that Soros will double his funding for the Democratic Party in the current presidential campaign, as part of his effort to prevent U.S. President Donald Trump from being re-elected.
