A publishcation for members of Expat World Philippines, "The Gilman Jones Daily" is available free each and every day with fresh news from around the world.

This gives Expat World Philippines the distinction of being a unique provider of service for Expats in the Philippines but enjoyable for other interested parties as well..

In an interview with Gilman Jones I asked him why he does it? " I don't do it for money", stated Gilman; "because I have never charged one single piso to any other expat for anything connected with Expat World."
"My background is Clinical Social Work so perhaps my perspective is slightly different than the average bear."

"I came to realize, over time as an expat, that connections were an important part of adjusting in a new country whether you are an Aussie, Brit or Yank," he said with a big smile....

My goal with the paper, the Gilman Jones Daily, was to assist folks with remaining connected with their home countries where most guys have children and other family;  as well as to provide news from this country(Philippines) , embassy info etc.

We should take as much space as we want in our lives, live independently, but maintain the connection points where it makes us strong; Everybody's different, he said..

"Do you have a staff to get the paper out everyday", I asked with some amount of amazement in my voice?
"Well no I wish I did but through the miracle of technology today I can extract much information through direct feed each day", Gil replied. That information has to be organized and supplemented by actual research and further selection.. "

My staff are the "members" of Expat World Philippines who contribute with their posts throughout the day and the Administrators who also post articles of interest. But the truth is that I have to do the newspaper each day myself which takes 2-3 hours. After that, new or breaking news may be added to the daily paper throughout the day... So each day is an evolving publishcation..

I must confess that I was surprised with the commitment of this 68 year old man who confessed that he was not always in the best of health, so I had to ask the obvious question.
"If your not earning from your efforts what is it that drives you or motivates you to do this everyday?"

Gil smiled, pursed his lips and seemingly just blurted " I care about these guys, I guess".. Even the ones who are hard to like. I care about them too... It's a small thing that I can do. You know there are many expats that are making a difference but they don't brag about it.. Even when you volunteer to be an emergency contact for another expat who has no car.. It's a big deal but not much recognition to it...Still we can "pay it forward ", so to speak... I respect all of these guys...

Gilman Jones,an easy sort to be around, is impressive as he is humble. He's a guy who has tried to make a difference in the lives of others all of his life. Now as an expat he has turned his attention to  others who need the connection of  their fellow explorers. The Gilman Jones Daily, websites and Facebook groups are consistent with his life and work... In a short interview to satisfy my curiosity I stumbled upon more than I bargained for.
