If you think the cost of living in the Philippines is cheap, think again ! Pacific South Morning Journal

If you think the cost of living in the Philippines is cheap, think again.

Most middle-class Filipinos pay with their own money for what their peers in industrialised nations get back through taxpayer-funded public services.
Middle-class Filipinos pay for expensive private schools because the public schools in the Philippines are substandard. Middle-class Filipinos pay for expensive private hospitals because government run health clinics are overcrowded and understaffed.
Expats in the Philippines deal with the same struggles, have the same hurdles as middle class Filipinos.

All that is because of corruption and the stupid voters who elect these corrupt politicians into power.
Many items such as sedans and appliances are more expensive because what are considered basic necessities in industrialised nations are priced as imported luxury goods in the Philippines.
It's even more expensive to be poor because they can't afford to invest in insurance, savings, health services, exercise, and nutritious diets.
So much of every Filipino's life is wasted on hours spent in traffic.
So much of every Filipino's money is wasted paying taxes that only enrich corrupt politicians and their crony contractors instead of providing efficient public services.
So much of every Filipino's potential is unrealised by a corrupt society that rewards nepotism, cronyism, religious favouritism, school and fraternity connections instead of competence and experience and that does not value or compensate artistry and creativity.
Just to experience a clean public park, many Filipinos vacation abroad, if only for a few days. Just to find a job that pays well, many Filipinos work overseas, even if it means being separated from loved ones. Just to be safe from a fascist regime whose public and foreign policy is murder, plunder, and treason, many Filipinos migrate abroad whatever the personal cost.
To be a Filipino is to be burdened by the corruption, ignorance, and the lack of discipline of the many. To be a Filipino is to breath in and wade through the garbage that other Filipinos litter.
To be a Filipino is to endure the brutality, incompetence, and treason that other Filipinos elect.
To be a Filipino is to be associated with a people who commit crimes against humanity. So it is to be an expat in the Philippines

How much has being an expat in the Philippines cost you?
It ain't cheap.

How Brexit turned the UK German

Industrial strategy, devolution and public investment. Stian Westlake offers up a fairy tale. of 2017. Share: When Britain voted to leave the European Union, few people expected it would result in the UK becoming more like Germany, the country that runs the European show. But that’s what ended up happening, and it was in 2017 that the process really began. Industrial strategy was the first step. Theresa May’s government decided that Britain’s ever-increasing trade deficit was a luxury that the UK, as an independent nation, could no longer afford. Already in 2016 Philip Hammond had begun to deviate from decades of Treasury orthodoxy by announcing £23 billion of investments into infrastructure, skills and research. Over the course of 2017, the UK proved the Treasury view wrong by investing effectively in downstream R&D, identifying its real industrial strengths, focusing big government budgets like health and energy on innovation, and sowing the seeds for a revival of productive bu...
