Expats In the Philippines ask for Medications made in India to get best prices. Here's why-

by Gilman Jones & Lakshaya Grover his has been a topic of discussion amongst low cost healthcare activists in North America and Germany, Politicians and pharmaceutical companies alike. It is indeed true that the cost of many drugs is significantly lower in India compared to not only America, but the whole world. The primary factor that bloats up the cost of medicines in USA is the strong patent laws that protect the right of industry giants to monopolise the production of important drugs. This results in the pharma corporations demanding exorbitant amounts of money for essential life saving drugs. United States has been a pioneer in developing new drugs and treatments, but the issue of corporate monopoly over the cost and distributions has stultified the dissipation of effective treatment to the ones who actually need it. The pharmaceutical companies, in a nexus with healthcare insurance companies artificially inflate the cost of drugs and often deprive the needy of h...

Cardinal George Pell convicted of child sex abuse - suppression order in place in Australia

I am currently not in Australia. Mainstream media in Australia are subject to a suppression order on reporting this story. When the Vatican's 3rd most senior cleric is convicted of child sex abuse it's a huge global story. Media outlets overseas are all over it - in those circumstances I thought it appropriate to publish this report. Australian Court Finds Cardinal Pell Guilty of Sexual Abuse A Melbourne court has reportedly convicted the Vatican’s finance chief, Cardinal George Pell, of sexually abusing two choir boys in the 1990s when he was archbishop of Melbourne. After more than three days of deliberations, the court handed down a guilty verdict Tuesday by a unanimous consent of the jury. If the verdict is confirmed, it will be the highest-ranking condemnation of a Church official for a crime of sexual abuse. Last year, Cardinal Pell requested a dispensation from his duties in Rome to travel to Melbourne to defend himself against the charges against him, which he h...

Sumilon Island: Its a Trip you'll have To Enjoy - Pacific South Morning Journal

While the comforts Bluewater Sumilon affords are draws in itself, the surrounding possibilities make it an essential pit stop to a smorgasbord of delights. Even those who’ve sought out most of the myriad of tropical wonders around these 7,000+ islands would agree – there are few that could rival the Central Visayas quadrant that includes the islands of Cebu, Negros, Bohol, and Siquijor. With each of the islands some two hours or so away from each other, it’s a perfect springboard for holidays certain to leave a lasting mark on those fortunate enough to embark on it.        And Sumilon Island, just off the southeastern tip of Cebu, has established itself as a go-to island escape for the more discerning lot. I’ve been blessed enough by my travels to have experienced all Bluewater Resorts properties. And though Maribago, and Panglao have their own allure, Bluewater Sumilon holds the title of my favorite. All three pride themselves in offering the distin...

BI Opens E-Gates in Cebu, Davao - Pacific South Morning Journal ®

02 November 2018 PRESS STATEMENT BI Opens E-Gates in Cebu, Davao The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced the launching of its electronic gate facility (E-Gate) scheme for Filipino travelers arriving in the airports of Cebu and Davao. In a report to Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente, BI Port Operations Division (POD) Chief Grifton Medina said that a total of five E-Gates—three in Mactan and two in Davao—became fully operational at the two southern airports last week. Medina said similar E-Gates will be installed in the airports of Clark and Kalibo before the year ends, so that with the onset of the peak travel season the project would be operational in all of the country’s five major ports of entry. “We are targeting to make the E-Gates operational in these major ports before the Christmas and New Year, when we expect to process a huge influx of traveling passengers,” Medina added. According to Medina, during its initial stages, only Filipino passengers w...

How Hitler used Jews’ failed WWI-era idealism to feed the world’s worst genocide-Pacific South Morning Journal ®

D uring World War I, almost 100,000 German Jews proudly served in military uniform as soldiers, sailors, airmen and administrators. But far from a better public opinion of Germany’s Jewish citizens, after Germany’s crushing loss there was instead a subsequent rise in anti-Semitic narratives. Among the common myths circulated at the time were assertions — based on real-life examples — that Jews were war profiteering at home. On top of that, it was rumored that Jews were “war shirking” — a term used to describe avoiding military responsibilities at the front lines. The potent mix of prejudices and stereotypes quickly led a battered post-WWI German people to pin all their troubles on a ready-made scapegoat: the Jews. “If we want to clearly understand how the Nazis came to power, we need to see it was the events of WWI that were fundamental to their rise,” says British historian Tim Grady, whose latest book is “A Deadly Legacy: German Jews and the Great War.” “The l...
